Mesothelioma: What is it?
The mesothelioma is a cancer of the fabric (mesothelium) surrounding the lungs, the abdomen, and the heart.
The main cause of the mesothelioma is asbestos exposure. When microscopic asbestos fibres are inhaled/introduced, they obtain firmly placed in the lungs/stomach making become abnormal and begin the cells of mesothelium to multiply without any order or order, the end result being cancer (mesothelioma).
These cells invade, damage, and gradually destroy the surrounding fabrics and bodies.
The mesothelioma is composed mainly of three types.
-- Pleural mesothelioma (mesothelioma of fabric surrounding the lungs)
-- Mesothelioma pritonal (mesothelioma of fabric surrounding the stomach)
-- Pericardial mesothelioma (mesothelioma of fabric surrounding the heart)
The people who are at the maximum risk to develop the mesothelioma could include the following.
-- Workmen in asbestos mines
-- People living in the great proximity with the asbestos mines
-- Workmen in the construction trade who handle asbestos containing material
-- Workmen of the companies of displacement of asbestos which were in direct contact with the asbestos dust
-- Workmen responsible for the restorations of house/building
-- Workmen implied in the building of boat
-- Workmen implied in the restoration of boat
-- Workmen implied in the rupture of boat
-- People who enter in direct contact with the workmen, particularly the friends and the members mentioned above the ones of family. The fine asbestos particles which are not seen with the naked eye obtain placed at such people hair and clothing and could be inhaled by people coming into contact with them.
Complications to diagnose the mesothelioma
The diagnosis of the mesothelioma is not easy and does not imply usually many complications.
A diagnosis for the mesothelioma can be directed towards other disease or condition because of the similarity between the mesothelioma and much of maladies/de minor conditions such as the head cold and the seasonal allergies.
In completely some cases the mesothelioma could be diagnosed as cancer of lung which also implies the lungs, but is a type completely different of cancer of the mesothelioma.
Diagnosing mesothelioma of the techniques
A diagnosis for the mesothelioma will usually start with the doctor/surgeon reviewing of the complete medical antecedents of the patient. This is followed of a complete physical examination according to the signs and the symptoms of mesothelioma described by the patient. The signs and the symptoms could include the brevity of the breath, difficulty in the breathing caused by the compression of lung, soft with the serious constant pain in the trunk, of the lungs surrounded by the excessive fluid, the tiredness caused without any reason connect, of the traces of blood in spittle, the sudden not explained weight loss, the constant pain (soft with excessive) in the abdomen, the swelling of the abdomen, the apparent change suddenly of the movement of entrails with the constant diarrhoea or the constipation, and the fabric puts in block in the abdomen.
The physical tests will include tests of formation image to seek and determine the cancer cells/formation. These tests of formation image could include one or more following.
-- X-rays
-- Sweeping of CAT/CT
-- Sweeping of MRI
-- Sweeping of FAMILIAR ANIMAL
Other tests to determine the mesothelioma by means of a biopsy could include the following.
-- Thoracoscopy
-- Peritoneoscopy
Detection of the using mesothelioma of x-rays
A trunk or a x-ray of abdomen will make it possible the mdecin/au surgeon to see through layers of fabric of skin and surface. X-rays show the fluid/preparing of mass and help by determining any incidence of the mesothelioma to the lungs, the abdomen, or in the middle.
X-rays are one of the oldest methods to diagnose the mesothelioma and come with some straws. X-rays are known to miss the tiny growths which are caused in the mesothelioma, driving to delay further in the correct diagnosis and endangering probably the life of the patient.
Detection of the mesothelioma using the sweeping of CAT/CT
Sweepings of CT/CAT (calculated axial tomography) are basically three-dimensional x-rays which can project the extremely detailed internal images skeletal bodies, bones and structures. The sweeping of CT is a method to combine images of x-rays multiples using a computer to reproduce the images out of cut or three-dimensional internal bodies. It is useful by determining the place and the diffusion of the mesothelioma. They are much more precise in detail than x-ray, helping the doctor/surgeon makes a more precise diagnosis. One of the disadvantages of sweepings of CT is that it cannot differentiate between the benign or malignant mesothelioma.
Detection of the mesothelioma using the sweeping of MRI
Sweepings of MRI (formation image of magnetic resonance) are sophisticated than x-ray and of sweepings of CT. It makes use of the high magnetic fields and the radio waves, and using a computer give the doctors/surgeons a clear image of the internal bodies and skeletal structure. Sweepings of MRI are extremely clear and very useful by detecting soft growths of fabric related per mesothelioma and by determining the severity of the tumour.
Detection of the using mesothelioma of sweepings of FAMILIAR ANIMAL
The formation image of FAMILIAR ANIMAL (tomography of emission of positron) the best and is employed usually technology of the image to diagnose the mesothelioma. Sweepings of FAMILIAR ANIMAL use the cameras and the tracers which form images to indicate the biological changes which can detect the extremely small cancerous tumours. They are much higher in their quality and details of image once compared with x-rays, sweepings of CAT, and even with sweepings of MRI. Sweepings of FAMILIAR ANIMAL also help the doctor/surgeon by determining the scaffolding of cancer.
Thoracoscopy
Thoracoscopy is a process where the surgeon will make a small incision in the thoracic wall and will insert an instrument known under the name of thoracoscope (equipped with a camera and a light miniatures) to examine and obtain a fabric sample for more biopsy.
Peritoneoscopy
Peritoneoscopy is a process where the surgeon will make a small incision in the abdomen to extract a pilot fabric for more biopsy.
What after a positive diagnosis of mesothelioma
Once diagnosed with the mesothelioma even most extremely in the heart and the spirit can become weak. The current time of survival after the positive diagnosis is right 12 to 18 months (some will not survive even this length).
There is some news calming for the people who positive will be diagnosed for the mesothelioma in the future. The new tests and drugs which are very promising undergo the test and should obtain the time of survival after diagnosis to a 5 years minimum or. With fast advances in technology, the time of survival after diagnosis of mesothelioma will just continue to become better and better.
