What is mesothelioma
The mesothelioma is a cancer affecting the lining of membrane of the lungs, abdomen, and in rare cases the heart. It is a cancer which is not very common, and is almost always caused because of the inhalation or the ingestion of asbestos.
As of the inhalation or ingestion, the mesothelioma roughly takes 30 to 40 years to develop and show its effects/signs/symptoms. It is one of the primary reasons for which the mesothelioma is seen most of the time in older patients, most of the time male.
Though not very common, the mesothelioma is one of the more mortal, aggressive, and painful of all cancers.
Various types of mesothelioma
There are three types of mesothelioma.
-- Pleural mesothelioma
-- Mesothelioma pritonal
-- Pericardial mesothelioma
The mesothelioma which occurs in the fabric which surrounds the lungs is known as a pleural mesothelioma. It is the most common form of mesothelioma. More than 80% of those diagnosed with the mesothelioma suffer from the pleural mesothelioma.
The mesothelioma which occurs in the fabric which surrounds the abdomen is known as a mesothelioma pritonal.
The mesothelioma which occurs in the fabric which surrounds the heart is known as a pericardial mesothelioma. It is rarest of mesothelioma.
Signs and symptoms of the mesothelioma
The signs and the symptoms of mesothelioma could take as long as 30 to 40 years on the surface after initial asbestos inhalation.
The symptoms of the mesothelioma will depend on which type of mesothelioma it is.
The signs and the symptoms of the pleural mesothelioma could include one or more following.
-- Brevity of breath which continues with the increase while cancer progresses
-- Difficulty in the breathing caused by compression of lung
-- Soft with the serious constant pain in the trunk
-- Lungs are surrounded by the excessive fluid
-- Tire caused without any apparent reason
-- Traces of blood in spittle
-- Sudden not explained weight loss
The signs and the symptoms of the mesothelioma pritonal could include one or more following.
-- Constant pain (soft with excessive) in the abdomen
-- Swelling of the abdomen
-- Apparent change suddenly of the movement of entrails with the diarrhoea or the constant constipation
-- Pieces of fabric in the abdomen
-- Sudden not explained weight loss
Treatment of mesothelioma
The treatment of the mesothelioma will depend on which type of mesothelioma it is, with which stage cancer was diagnosed, and the age and the health of patients.
The type of the most common treatment for the mesothelioma is surgery, followed radiation therapy and of chemotherapy. According to the situation a combination of these treatments are employed.
Surgery for the mesothelioma
The most common treatment for the mesothelioma is surgery. According to the diffusion of cancer, the surgeon could remove part of the lining of the trunk or the abdomen and also a certain surrounding fabric. When cancer deviated with a lung, the surgeon can remove part of a side of the lung in an operation known under the name of pneumonectomy. In rare cases it becomes necessary to remove a part of the muscle below the lungs (diaphragm) which helps in the course of breathing.
The pleural mesothelioma can cause a liquid preparing in the trunk which makes breathe very difficult. The surgeon in this case will insert a catheter in the trunk to drain the fluid outside. The drug also could be injected in the trunk to stop/reduced more liquid preparing.
Radiation for the mesothelioma
The radiation therapy (radiotherapy) makes use of the rays of great energy to kill out of the cancer cells and the tumours of contracting. The radiation can be given by a machine of radiation (known under the name of external radiation therapy), or by putting certain chemicals which produce the radiation by the thin tubes in the affected sector by cancer (known under the name of therapy of bayonnement interns).
Chemotherapy for the mesothelioma
Chemotherapy makes use of anti-cancer drugs to kill out of the cancer cells in all the body. The most common type is an injection given into intravenous. The tests are lit to discover the effectiveness to inject these drugs directly in the affected sector.
Therapy of combination for the mesothelioma
A combination of surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy is in association therapy used. This could prove more salutary, but is very hard on the body, and is not appropriate to each one. The therapy of combination is employed only on the patients who are young (in their 30s) and in good health, and can resist the effects of this treatment.
So that which treatment of mesothelioma chooses
The treatment best suited will be decided by the surgeon. It will depend on the patients age, health, place and diffusion of cancer.
In a maximum of the cases cancer is detected when it is too late for a full treatment. The patient will usually not survive more than 12 to 18 months after diagnosis. The surgeon will concentrate on manners of removing/destroyed the diffusion of deceleration of cancer cells more far from cancer.
There are some other treatments which are available and currently undergoing clinical tests. Your surgeon can guide you on these novel methods and consider all the factors which you could decide on a certain treatment. Though these new treatments employ last currently available technologies, a full treatment is not guaranteed. Using these new treatments, the surgeons try to obtain the report/ratio of survival after diagnosis to the top from the 12 to 18 months current, to roughly 5 to 10 years.
To take part in these clinical tests probably could help longer of phase of patients, at the same time making it possible surgeons to better include/understand the disease and to in the near future find probably a treatment total for the mesothelioma.
